J.M.H. STUDIOS
I was raised in the suburbs of Detroit Michigan, lived for a short while in Lake Tahoe, and now live with my husband John on the West Coast of Florida in a town called Osprey. Most people associate Florida with beaches, Disney, palm trees, and golf. And while I do occasionally paint some of these subjects, primary my scenes are of Western and Ranch life. Florida is not “The West” with the mountains and wide open spaces, but we do have ranches, rodeos, and lots of cattle out here.

I have been involved in some form of art for most of my life. Although primarily self taught - I have taken classes at the Ringling School of Art, various art courses while studying Architecture at  Lawrence Institute of Technology, and a few painting workshops. I have enjoyed pottery, photography, woodcarving, stone carving, and charcoal, but painting with oils is what gives me the most pleasure.

I love painting, being outdoors and horses. Painting western and equine scenes enables me to combine all of these. I plan to continue painting as long as I am able and will strive to create quality collectable art.

Artist Statement:

They say you’re best at the things that you’re passionate about. That’s why I became an artist and why I paint horses. I love going out to the local ranches to study and take pictures of these beautiful animals and I enjoy being around the people who live this lifestyle.
